Millions of Commonwealth Bank customers have been affected by an outage, inhibiting people from paying for their shopping and from accessing their online accounts.

The financial institution took to Twitter shortly after 11.30 on Tuesday morning to confirm they were “urgently investigating” the outage, which appears to be nation-wide.

“We apologise and thanks for your patience, we’ll provide an update soon,” the bank said.

Users were quick to express their outrage at the third outage in as many weeks, labelling it “infuriating” as many shared how they were forced to abandon their groceries or call family to pay for their fuel.

“Absolutely hopeless. Can’t pay my phone bill... Third time in a month I’ve been affected by this incompetence,” one Twitter user wrote.

“You are joking right. This is like 3 weeks in a row... You need to get it together or I’m out, and I’ve been with you for 20 odd years,” another said.

“Not even able to access my money in the bank. Not enough fuel to drive home. No lunch. Can’t buy my prescription medication,” one man wrote.

“This is beyond a joke. Third time in a month I’ve been standing at a register unable to pay,” said another.
