Kopore Metals is ready to start its exploration program at its recently acquired Agadez uranium project in Niger, with first phase of its 5500m drilling program expected next month.

The Western Australia-based explorer finalised the acquisition of the project, in the highly prospective Tim Mersoi Basin, earlier this week.

The exploration program will include 5340m of rotary mud drilling and 160m of diamond core drilling.

The campaign is expected to finish within 10 weeks and will include logging and surface sampling.

Kopore recently confirmed Agadez as prospective for uranium after a review of the previously unannounced 2011 drilling program by Paladin Energy.

The highest-grade intersections from the Paladin program include 2m at 0.17 per cent uranium oxide from 229.5m in addition to 1m at 0.17 per cent from 148.7m.

The company says preliminary downhole gamma results are expected soon after the program’s completion, with assay results due in the fourth quarter of this year.

With a total of 5500 metres of drilling planned to commence in June, and Kopore having recently confirmed the project as prospective for uranium, it is an exciting time for shareholders as we continue to build value. With the drilling program due for completion within 10 weeks, we look forward to updating the market with the results in due course.

Kopore says the program aims to confirm and extend uranium mineralisation previously delineated within Jurassic formations in the Takardeit prospect.

Takerdeit has been highlighted as a key target for the company, partially because of historic exploration of the site.

In 2010, former owner NGM Resources published a JORC 2004 compliant resource estimate of 23 million tonnes at 210 parts per million uranium with an estimated 11 million pounds of uranium oxide at a 120-ppm cut-off grade.

Agadez comprises three exploration permits covering 726 square kilometres and an exploration licence application.

Other uranium projects in the Tim Mersoi Basin include Orano SA’s Cominak and Somair mines, together with the Imouraren mine and deposits held by Global Atomic Corporation.

Kopore also has copper and silver interests in Africa through its Ghanzi West Project in Botswana.
