Bindi Irwin has shared a shocking health update after she was rushed to hospital for emergency surgery in the US on Saturday.

The 26-year-old wildlife conservationist revealed that 14 endometriosis lesions were discovered while she was in surgery for a ruptured appendix.

The surgeon also had to repair a large hernia Irwin acquired through childbirth four years ago.

“After many months of a grumbly appendix, I finally had to seek help the day of our Steve Irwin Gala,” she said in an Instagram post.

“My appendix was removed, along with another 14 lesions (after having 37 endometriosis lesions and a cyst removed two years ago). I also had a repair to a large hernia I acquired through childbirth four years ago.

“I am so thankful that I got the help I needed with Dr Seckin and Dr Chu and Lennox Hill Hospital.”

Irwin confirmed that the unexpected surgery was a “success” and that she is on “the road to recovery.”

After consultations with her surgeon, Irwin agreed to fly to New York so her endometriosis could be checked again, meaning she sadly had to miss the annual Steve Irwin Gala in Las Vegas.

Irwin thanked her family for their continued support, giving her brother Robert Irwin a special shout out for stepping into hosting duties at the major fundraising event.

“Credit to Robert for hosting the evening, he did such an incredible job raising funds and awareness for Wildlife Warriors.”

“Thanks to my family for always being there for me. I have so much love for dear Chandler & sweet Grace.

“Thank you to Mum for being there with me every step of the way.”

In March 2023, Irwin was diagnosed with endometriosis and underwent surgery four days later. She had 37 lesions and a cyst removed on this occasion. It was the first time the television personality had spoken publicly about having the condition that she’d been suffering from for a decade.
