Today show presenter Sarah Abo has announced her permanent departure from the Nine Network, three months after her co-host Karl Stefanovic was booted off.
Abo, who is currently on maternity leave, announced the major news on Wednesday and is set to depart the network at the end of 2026 to pursue other opportunities.
“Words can’t express how grateful I am to our viewers for letting me into your homes to be part of your morning routine,” she said in a statement.
“Without you, there is no Today show.
“Together with 60 Minutes, I’ve spent my time at Nine chasing stories, travelling and reporting from all over the world, interviewing some incredible and inspiring people from all walks of life.
“Becoming a mum has heralded a new chapter and sharing that with our audience has been truly special. As many of you know, this has been a significant journey for my family and will continue to be my greatest achievement.
“I’d like to thank the wider Today team – the amazing crew, incredible producers and my wonderful fellow hosts – you all know how much you mean to me.
“It takes a special kind of crazy to wake up at the hours we do but it’s so much easier when the team feels like family. I’ll miss you all dearly.”
Abo and her husband of more than a decade, Cyrus Moran, welcomed their baby boy Sonny in July. The co-host departed the program early to go on maternity leave.
Nine is set to announce 2027’s new line-up of hosts for Today “soon”.
Abo joined Nine in February 2019 as a reporter for 60 Minutes and was promoted to permanent co-host of the Today show in 2023, joining Stefanovic who had been in his role since January 2005.
Stefanovic exited the network in June after facing intense backlash over an interview with British far-right activist and convicted criminal Tommy Robinson on his independent podcast.
Robinson — whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon — has multiple criminal convictions and has been banned from entering Australia.
During the episode, Stefanovic used derogatory language towards outgoing UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Management at Nine served Stefanovic with a breach of contract notice, saying his actions brought the network into disrepute.
