Holly Peach, 13, is making her mark on the fencing piste

Thirteen-year-old Holly Peach is making her mark on the piste (playing area) – taking out both the 2023 Under 13 Female WA State Champion and 2023 Under 15 Female WA State Champion in epee fencing.

What was your happiest moment?

When I won two trophies in two different age groups.

What is the biggest risk you have ever taken?

When I represented WA and competed in nationals at the age of 12 in Sydney in 2022.

How and when did you start fencing?

I saw the scene in The Parent Trap where they had fencing, so I asked my parents if I could do fencing.

How much time do you spend training?

Two hours on Tuesday, two hours on Friday, and two hours on Saturday.

What has been the biggest hurdle in getting this far in fencing?

Not having enough female competitors to compete against.

What would you say to encourage other young people to achieve their goals?

You might fail before you succeed, but you shouldn’t give up.

Name something a coach has taught you that you’ve never forgotten.

Stay focused on the task, have fun and try your best.

Which is your favourite animated movie character?

Rapunzel. She disobeyed her evil “mother” and escaped to go do what she wanted to do.

If you had the power to change one thing in the world, what would it be?

Create a medicine to cure cancer.

What is your dream holiday destination?

England in the winter when it snows because I’ve always wanted to visit England to see some family and friends over in England.

What is your greatest achievement outside fencing?

I got an award in drama.

How do you spend your spare time?

I hang out with my sister or my friends down at the park.

What’s your favourite . . . ?

Music artist: Eminem.

Item of clothing: Hoodies/jumpers/baggy clothes.

Food: Italian food especially chilli mussels.

TV show: Doctor Who with Matt Smith as the Doctor.

Smell: English rose.
