“We hold many great memories of our time with you. But the time has come for The Stanley to join the annals of history.

“We would like to thank you all for your support and extend our appreciation of your patronage, we couldn’t have done it without you.”

The announcement was met with shock and sadness, with more than a hundred people commenting on the post at the news of its closing.

“My and my wife drive all the way form Bayswater just to soak up the vibes of this place. We are literally devastated,” one Facebook user said.

“So many good times at the Stanley. Have celebrated birthday, deaths, premierships and anything else we can think of. Such an institution. Good luck Gerry with whatever is next. Looking forward to one last drink tonight,” another one posted.

“One of the original community bars that has been a constant through good and tough times.”

The Stanley is known for its “mix of Victorian and modern styling with a random collection of funky objects”.

On its opening, The West Australian reported it “has transformed the local landscape along Cambridge Street, giving locals a sophisticated relaxed atmosphere to head for a quiet drink”.

The West Australian contacted the owners for a comment.
