Op shops are sprinkled throughout almost every suburb, dedicated slow fashion markets are popping up across Perth, and resale apps have made buying and selling second-hand clothing simpler than ever. But with so many options, where do you begin?

From hidden local gems to new tech arrivals, here’s where to strike fashion gold on your sustainable shopping journey.

Apps

Australian fashion lovers spent years watching Europeans unbox rare Vinted finds on social media with a healthy dose of envy. But in July, that wait finally came to an end when the popular second-hand marketplace officially launched in Australia.

The arrival is good news for buyers and sellers alike. As well as giving shoppers access to thousands of pre-loved pieces, Vinted charges zero seller fees — a move that prompted competitor Depop to follow suit by scrapping its 10 per cent selling fee.

“In 2025 alone, our European members saved a collective $35 billion by choosing fashion on Vinted over buying new, and buyers saved an average of 72 per cent on fashion items compared to original prices,” Vinted chief executive Adam Jay says.

“In Europe, 76 per cent of Vinted buyers say Vinted made second-hand shopping much more accessible, and we’re excited to now bring that same experience to Australia.”

According to new research data conducted by Vinted, 92 per cent of WA residents have bought or sold second-hand, with nearly half selling more items in the past year than in the previous one.

Of course, there’s also eBay, which offers a similar online marketplace for buying and selling pre-loved fashion.

Perth Pre Loved Market

Lulu Oostryck and Lauren Bamford launched Perth Pre Loved Market (often shortened to PPL Market) in February, and it has quickly become a favourite among Perth’s thrifting community. Held at North Perth Town Hall on the first Sunday of every month, the market specialises in premium and designer fashion at a fraction of its original retail price. It also partners with social enterprise Dress for Success, helping provide professional clothing to women entering or returning to the workforce.

St Pat’s Stores, Fremantle

One of Perth’s newest additions to the sustainable shopping scene, St Pat’s Stores opened in the heart of Fremantle this year with a mission that extends well beyond fashion. Spread across three adjoining stores on Market Street, the social enterprise sells affordable second-hand clothing, homewares and books, with every purchase helping fund St Patrick’s Community Support Centre’s work supporting people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

It’s also home to RePatched, an in-house fashion label transforming damaged or unsellable textiles into one-of-a-kind garments and accessories. Think worn denim, vintage tablecloths, curtains and surplus wool blankets reborn as coats, bags and statement pieces. The collection has already earned national recognition, appearing on the red carpet at the 2024 ARIA Awards on artist Hanni, and the Circular Fashion Festival in 2025.

Beyond diverting textiles from landfill, RePatched has also created a thriving community of volunteer makers, proving sustainable fashion can have a social impact in more ways than one.
