Haval has announced preliminary details for the new-generation H6 medium SUV, which will arrive in Australian showrooms next month with a three-variant line-up starting from $30,990 drive-away.

The entry point makes the H6 one of the cheapest medium SUVs to get into, undercut only by the Mahindra XUV 500 and Ssangyong Korando (both from $26,990 drive-away).

Starting with the entry-level Premium spec, all models have a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission, while the standard kit belies the low entry price: 18 inch alloys, LED lighting, a 10.25 inch colour LED instrument cluster and a 10.25 inch colour multimedia touchscreen are all found across the range.

Safety tech on all variants includes autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and bicycle detection, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, traffic sign recognition, lane change assist with blind spot monitoring, driver fatigue monitoring and more.

Stepping up to the mid-spec Lux adds front LED fog lamps, roof rails, leather steering wheel, eco-leather seats (heated and electrically adjustable in the front), dual-zone climate control, eight-speaker audio, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, Traffic Jam Assist, 360 degree camera and more.

The top-spec Ultra’s extras include 19-inch wheels, sunroof, electric tailgate, 12.3 inch colour multimedia touchscreen, head up display, heated steering wheel, wireless phone charging and heated and ventilated front seats.

It also offers the choice of front or all-wheel-drive.

There is no word on pricing for the Lux or Ultra trims as yet.

The new model gets a significantly redesigned exterior thanks to former Land Rover designer Phil Simmons.

The H6 is yet to make a mark on the medium SUV segment, selling just 957 in 2020 for a 0.6 per cent share.
