Mazda has revealed Australian pricing and specifications for the mild hybrid version of its new MX-30 compact SUV, which will start at $33,990 plus on road costs when it arrives in the first half of this year.

Available in three variants, the MX-30 range pairs a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with a 24-volt mild hybrid system to create 114kW and 200Nm.

A six-speed automatic sends power to the front wheels and, as it’s only a mild hybrid, its claimed fuel consumption is 6.4L/100km.

For context, Mazda’s almost identically proportioned CX-30 with a 2.0-litre engine uses 6.5L/100km, meaning MX-30 buyers will be choosing it for its styling more than anything.

Well, buyers of the hybrid, anyway: an electric MX-30 is on the way later in the year, though pricing and details are yet to be revealed.

Based on the mild hybrid pricing, we’d guess the electric MX-30 price will start north of $50,000.

Kicking off the range, the entry level G20e Evolve’s features list includes 18-inch silver alloy wheels, push button start, 8.8-inch widescreen infotainment display, 7-inch TFT LCD driver display, eight-speaker audio with digital radio, sat nav, dual-zone climate control and leather-wrapped gear shifter and steering wheel.

The MX-30 has a five-star ANCAP rating achieved under strict current protocols, meaning standard safety gear is generous: 10 airbags, blind spot monitoring, driver attention alert, emergency lane keeping with road keep assist and blind spot assist, high beam control adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition and more.

Stepping up to the mid-spec G20e Touring adds $2500 and brings with it keyless entry, auto-dimming driver-side wing mirror, white “Maztex” with grey cloth seat upholstery, electrically adjustable driver’s seat and illuminated front vanity mirrors.

The G20e Astina range-topper costs $40,990 plus on-roads, offering bright-finish alloys, heated exterior mirrors, sunroof, heated front seats and steering wheel, brown Maztex and black cloth seat upholstery and adaptive LED headlights.

It also scores extra safety equipment such as 360-degree view monitor, cruising and traffic support, driver monitoring, front cross traffic alert and front parking sensors.

Lower grades can also gain these features via a $1500 Vision Technology pack.
