Kia has revealed further details of its upcoming EV6 electric car, which it has confirmed will make it to Australia.

Production of Australian-bound vehicles will begin in South Korea in the fourth quarter of this year, though it’s yet to be confirmed when they will arrive here, how much they will cost and what variants will be offered locally.

Leading the charge (no pun intended) will be the EV6 GT, with dual motors sending an eye-widening 430kW and 740Nm to all four wheels for a 0-100km/h time of 3.5 seconds and a 260km/h top speed.

The two other variants — the EV6 and EV6 GT-Line — can be had in front or all-wheel-drive, offering 173-239kW and 603Nm.

All three can be had with a 77.4kWh battery, which in the EV6 can rack up 510km on a single charge, while the two non-GT variants can also be fitted with a smaller 58.0kWh battery with an undisclosed range.

Inside, Kia says the EV6 offers space to rival a medium SUV, despite its compact exterior dimensions.

There’s a 520-litre boot which grows to 1300 litres with the second row folded, plus a 20-52-litre “frunk” at the front, depending on whether the car is FWD or AWD.

The interior features two 12-inch screens with curved displays and thin film panels reduce glare from sunlight.

An augmented reality head-up display projects driving information onto the base of the windscreen in the driver’s line of sight, such as vehicle speed, and turn-by-turn navigation instructions.

The ‘Kia Connect’ car system can be updated over the air, while the speaker system offers Active Sound Design to provides drivers with audible feedback to reflect the speed the car is travelling at.
