A sleek, streamlined swimming pool has proven the perfect solution for a Mindarie family seeking privacy from all the hustle and bustle at the popular marina opposite their home.

Designed by White on White Design Director Chris White, the award-winning above-ground Boardwalk Pools build makes a splash while creating separation between their stylish backyard and the adjacent boat jetty.

Mr White said he had to overcome the challenges of a tricky site, designing the pool in a slim pocket of useable space between the marina’s rock retaining wall and existing sewer easement.

“There were also a number of local council requirements to contend with, as this space is considered the front yard,” he said.

“But having it as close to the marina wall as possible really makes you feel that you are enjoying the ocean rather than sitting in a pool.

“It’s all about connection, cohesiveness and balance to allow the pool to fit flawlessly into its existing surroundings.”

The seamless transition to the ocean, modern look yet homely vibe, loads of tech and high level of builder skill and craftsmanship impressed the 2021 Swimming Pool & Spa Association Western Australia Awards of Excellence judges, with Boardwalk Pools scooping the Residential Courtyard or Plunge Pool gold medal.

Measuring 9.2m by 2.2m, the gas-heated pool features a muted colour palette, designed by Mr White’s wife Roxanne of White on White Interiors, and a two-sided infinity edge that are key to its seamless appeal.

There is a spa area with six Venturi jets, as well as ledges catering for entertaining or simply sitting and soaking up the view.

Finished in a stunning custom blend of mosaic and herringbone tiles, the project also has plenty of extras, including multi-coloured LED lighting in both the pool, spa and infinity-edge trough for an added wow factor.

“Not only is it powered by a Viron Connect 10 touchpad and remote control, we have also added wi-fi connectivity allowing the pool to be operated when the owners are not at home via their mobile phone,” Boardwalk Pools Owner Laurence Morley said.

“A QuikClean in-floor cleaning system has been installed in the pool and infinity-edge trough, as our clients did not wish to use portable cleaners.

“Viron variable speed pumps power this project, with a fully integrated Viron salt chlorinator.”

The pool was part of a massive yard renovation designed by Mr White and completed by Broadwater Builds.

“This was a challenging but rewarding project,” Mr White said.

“Our clients were incredible – they took all of our advice on-board and this really shows in the outcome.

“It represents a great collaboration between the clients, White on White Design, White on White Interiors, Boardwalk Pools and Broadwater Builds.

“I take satisfaction in knowing our clients get to enjoy this space for many years to come.”
