Australia’s largest destination film festival is set to return to the seaside centres of WA’s South West region, with a jam-packed program of over 270 feature, documentary and short-film screenings and events.

Highlights include events for the four films up for Australia’s richest $100,000 film prize; Seriously Red, Sweet As, Of An Age, and Transfusion, awarded by a high profile jury of industry experts.

The screening of Sam Worthington’s Transfusion, starring writer-director Matt Nable, will mark the anticipated world premiere on Friday at Orana Cinemas in Busselton.

Free community screenings, hosted throughout Augusta, Dunsborough, Bunbury, Busselton, Margaret River and Vasse, will revolve around their 2022 Dig Deep theme; a variety of stories about Australians pulling together and finding joy through tough times.

The largest second-hand book sale in the State will return to The University of Western Australia’s Hackett Cafe this weekend to raise funds for Save the Children this weekend.

From the Pilbara to Perth, the event’s proceeds will support vulnerable children and has had continued support from the generous community for over 50 years.

Tackling issues at a community level, the charity’s work is heavily focused on early childhood development, youth engagement and family support.

If gin is your tipple of choice, you’re in luck because “the gin party of the year” has its sights on west coast shores.

The Australian Gin Distillers Association is hosting the second annual Perth Gin and Food Fest in Claremont for a weekend showcasing 50 distillers from around the country.

Attendees will have over 300 gins available to taste and will get to take home a complimentary gift bag including a tote bag, a keepsake tasting glass and many more goodies.

Unheard Stories Film Festival

One-off film festival, Unheard, will be spotlighting Deaf and hard-of-hearing Australian storytellers and will be held at Windsor Cinema in Nedlands next weekend to raise awareness of the challenges faced by the deaf community.

The program consists of four films — Hear Me Out, Amplify This!, Deafying Gravity and We Hear You, in a combination of Auslan, English and/or subtitles.

We Hear You was a winner at the Cannes World Film Festival 2021, and this screening will be the official West Australian premiere.

Perth’s premier winter jazz festival, Jazz by the Beach, is set to heat up our cold shores at Scarborough beach for one weekend only.

A showcase of WA’s hottest jazz musical talents, including Simone Craddock, Ricki Malet and Catherine Summers, will bring their world-class performances in a program of over 50 musicians across 10 venues.

There will be a variety of free and ticketed events throughout different times of the day, so there is something for everyone.
