Vinyl tragics, listen up: this spot in the basement of the State Buildings is about to become your happy place, if it isn’t already. This super cool shop, which you enter via the steps on St Georges Terrace at the corner of Barrack Street, imports an eclectic mix of records. Looking for something in the ambient, house or techno wheelhouse? No problem. More of a soul, jazz, disco guy? Happy days. Searching for reggae, dub, Afro, Latin and left field sounds? Say no more. They also have rock, pop, indie, psychedelic, folk and New Wave classics. Check out the store or shop online at shari-vari.com.

As the song goes, “summer’s here and the time is right for dancing in the streets” so the cocktail gurus at Bobeche have turned up the volume with a music-themed summer menu. From the Queen-inspired We Will Roku (Roku gin, rockmelon, basil, lemon) to the jazz homage Polyrhythm (three types of rum, Aperol, rose vermouth, charred pineapple) and the Top of the Pops (apricot, thyme, pomegranate, and bubbles), there’s something for everyone.

Bogan Shakespeare Presents: King Lear

This hilarious WA ensemble is back at the Heath Ledger Theatre from January 25 until February 4, this time giving King Lear the ocker treatment. The tragic tale of the ill-fated monarch might not immediately seem ripe for a bogan interpretation, but what if it was set at Cicerello’s in Fremantle, with the king simply wanting to retire and leave his fish empire to the most deserving of his children, someone who “can handle those goddamn seagulls”? Genius. Tickets to the show, part of Fringe World, are on sale now.
