A talented Albany and Districts Cricket Association under-14 A side were successful at the annual Peel Carnival last weekend.

Albany and Districts sent away four teams to the three-day competition in Halls Head from Saturday to Monday, and secured one title.

All three Monday games in the under-14s A-section were washed out, handing Albany overall victory.

Albany were on 15 points after wins on Saturday and Sunday, with the Monday match a no result, finishing top of the ladder ahead of Peel Maroon, Busselton Margaret River, Bunbury and Districts and Peel Blue all on nine points.

In the first match, Albany were comfortable 80-run winners over Busselton Margaret River after an all-round team performance.

Albany bowled their opponents out for 83 before finishing on 163.

Jed Kowald claimed 3-16 while Charlie Cousins (2-0), Matt Thompson (2-5) and O’Shea Durack (2-16) also took multiples.

Kowald top scored with the bat, making 36 and was well supported by Rory Luscombe (29), Durack (28) and Milan Jaggi (23).

A superb batting performance in their second match, led by a half-century from Jaggi, helped Albany post a match-winning total batting first against Bunbury and Districts.

Jaggi smashed 85 from 125 balls, including seven fours, while Teague Valli added 38 and Devon Jefferis finished 24no to help their side post 6-218 from 50 overs.

Albany restricted Bunbury and Districts to 128 as Durack (3-11) and Valli (3-29) did the damage with the ball.

Albany’s under-14 B team had two losses and a washout from their three games while the under-12s team secured one win and lost one to go with a washout to finish fifth.

For the first time, Albany and Districts sent away a girls’ team, competing in the under-15 division.

The team of 10 girls notched one win and one loss, while they also had a washout.
