Albany Highway crash: Major crash officers investigating van and mobility scooter crash, injured 81yo woman

Police are pleading for information about a crash where an elderly woman sustain serious injuries, after being hit and trapped by a minivan while she crossed Albany Highway on her mobility scooter. Emergency services rushed to the scene near ANZ Bank in Albany at about 2.05pm on Wednesday to rescue the 81-year-old woman. Police confirmed she was using the pedestrian crossing when she was hit by a van bring driven by a 64-year-old male. The Advertiser understands the woman’s foot was trapped in the front of the vehicle. Two crews from Albany Fire and Rescue Services were sent to extract the woman from the minivan, said a Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokesperson. She was freed by 2.36pm. A St John WA spokesperson said the woman was taken to Albany Health Campus via ambulance under lights and sirens. The spokesperson said her injuries are “quite serious”. Police confirmed the driver of the van was not injured and stopped at the scene.
