Albany mayor sees 2025 State Budget as “important opportunity” for Labor to make good on $132m of promises

The City of Albany will be closely following Thursday’s tabling of the State Budget as it waits to see if WA Labor’s multimillion-dollar promises will turn into funded projects. More than 30 promises totalling $132 million were made to the electorate during this year’s State election in Labor’s bid to hold onto the Albany seat. Albany mayor Greg Stocks said he welcomed the Budget as an “important opportunity” to deliver on the regional commitments. “During the campaign, the State government made several announcements to support major investment in housing, infrastructure and community amenity across Albany,” he said. “These included $14m for upgrades to Albany Airport, $1.5m for four additional courts and lighting at the Albany Regional Tennis Centre, and $825,000 to support planning for additional affordable homes in McKail North. “The city will be watching closely to see these projects funded in the 2025–26 State Budget and looks forward to working with the State to progress them quickly and efficiently.” Among the promises included $60m pledged to building a modular ward for the overcrowded Albany Health Campus, $12m for a residential rehabilitation facility and $22m for a new teaching block at North Albany Senior High School. New Albany MLA Scott Leary, who won the seat for the Nationals, said ensuring the funding was delivered is a “priority”. Treasurer Rita Saffioti will hand down the 2025 State Budget on Thursday.
