Great Southern product Tyron Smallwood enjoys career-best outing in Claremont’s big league win over Perth

Small forward Tyron Smallwood starred for Claremont as they moved to second on the WAFL ladder after a dominant 81-point victory over Perth in the Pyke Cup in round 17 at Mineral Resources Park on Saturday.

The former Royals and Albany player booted a career-high five goals to go with 17 disposals, four tackles and five inside-50s.

The result helped Tigers pass East Fremantle on the ladder and Smallwood was among the best players in the 18.14 (122) to 6.5 (41) win.

Smallwood kicked three goals during a late blitz in the fourth quarter to help his side move within one game of a finals berth.

The 22-year-old chased down Great Southern product Jye Clark and converted a free kick from 45m out before sailing through a long bomb after playing on from a mark inside the centre square, and then roved superbly to put through his third of the quarter.

Those three and two first-half goals gave the Albany product the first five-goal haul in 43 league appearances since 2018.

North Albany product and Claremont captain Declan Mountford also shone, gathering 23 touches along with nine inside 50s to be named in the Tigers’ best players.

Borden’s Anthony Davis amassed nine disposals while Gnowangerup’s Timm House had 10 disposals, three tackles and a goal.

North Albany youngster Talon Delacey made an impressive return to the league, collecting 12 touches, laying four tackles and recording five inside-50s.

Ex-Albany talent Kieran Gowdie had 18 hit-outs and seven touches in the ruck.

In the colts game, Claremont beat Perth with North Albany’s Rhori Williams-Jolley named among the best players after collecting 11 possessions, three tackles and three inside-50s in the 7.12 (54) to 3.6 (24) triumph.

North Albany’s Heath Ravenhill had 12 disposals, four tackles and two inside 50s. Toby Hall finished with 14 disposals and two tackles.

Ex-Royals forward Cooper Childs made seven disposals and four tackles.
