GSFL 2025: Tiger Jayden Scott boots five goals in commanding grand final display to win Alan Barnett Medal

Midfielder Jayden Scott emerged as the unlikely forward line hero in Railways’ gripping premiership victory over Albany, claiming the Alan Barnett Medal for his dazzling five-goal performance. Scott, one of the competition’s premier inside midfielders, spent the majority of the 2025 Great Southern Football League grand final deep inside the Tigers attacking arc. However it proved a masterstroke, as he kicked the first goal of the game and went on to finish with five of his side’s eight goals to help secure a third league flag in five seasons. He kicked two vital majors in the first to help the Tigers claim an early lead and then added two more in the decisive final term Now a premiership captain at just 26, Scott said he felt relieved to have made a big contribution on a landmark day for the yellow and black. “More just the fact that I helped the boys get over the line, which was good,” he said. “I’ve had a few quiet grand finals, so today to lift and help the boys out was really good. “I’m really proud of the boys, I think we probably put in our best effort all year today. “I was real worried that when it got down to three or four points, I was like we have to do something boys and we lifted in that last quarter.” Scott more known for his fierce attack on the ball and playing on the edge, was a cool, calm and collected customer in the front half. He had three goals by half-time and booted two crucial majors to start the fourth, pushing the deficit to 17 points and making the defending premiers’ task that little bit harder. “I kicked those first couple of goals and the boys just said, ‘let’s just isolate him’ so it worked out well in the end,” Scott said. “I thought I’d be up around the ball all day but I was at the other end of the ground and yeah, obviously a couple of really important goals in that second half. “Our young boys were massive today, like they have been all year down back. “So they probably carried us a bit as a group and then our leadership boys have really stood up.”
