Glammed-up punters were packed into every corner of the Premier Hotel Albany last Tuesday, with hundreds of patrons gathering to eagerly watch the race that stops the nation. The York Street venue was at maximum capacity for its annual Melbourne Cup lunch function, with all tickets for the dining area, mezzanine and balcony tables sold out days in advance. It was one of several Albany venues that held Melbourne Cup Day functions. While many opted for casual attire, some decided to get dolled up in the spirit of the festivities with colourful dresses, sharp suits and headwear. As well as the traditional sweepstakes competition, the pub held a raffle, with the ticket proceeds donated to the Albany Women’s Centre. Patrons were well watered and fed, with an array of bubbles, cocktails and delicious grazing platters served alongside the Prem’s traditional pub fare as they watched Half Yours claim cup glory.
