Len Handasyde, Kim Tyrer, Brett Bell, Andrew Fraser and Marie O’Dea secure seats in Plantagenet council

Three incumbent councillors have been re-elected to the Shire of Plantagenet council, with the five successful candidates announced on Sunday afternoon.

Shire president and farmer Len Handasyde was the first to reclaim his seat at the table.

He was followed by newcomer Kim Tyrer, who serves as the chief executive and winemaker at Galafrey Wines.

Third to secure a spot was veteran councillor Brett Bell.

School principal and incumbent councillor Andrew Fraser was the fourth to claim a position.

Electorate officer Marie O’Dea, who has twice been elected to the council but took a two-year break from 2023, locked in the fifth and final spot.

William Carter, Peter Purves and Sue Andersson were the three unsuccessful candidates.

The five freshly elected members will join councillors Rosie Brown, Ken Clements, Josh Liebeck and Warren Sheard around the table, and will serve until October 20, 2029.

A special council meeting will be held on October 21 to swear in the new members and determine who will serve as shire president and deputy.
