GSSA 2025: Polonia start new season in style with 6-2 victory as rivals battle out a draw in men’s senior comp

Polonia kicked off their season in style with a 6-2 demolition of Bayswater in the opening round of the 2025 Great Southern Soccer Association’s senior men’s league on Saturday night.

The win puts them on top of the ladder after Rovers and Phoenix battled out a 2-2 draw.

Albany Caledonian had a first round bye and will see their first action of the new campaign when they take on Rovers on Saturday night, May 10.

Phoenix and Polonia face up in the other round two fixture.

Denmark started their senior women’s league campaign in style with a 3-0 win over Phoenix on Friday.

The reigning titleholders took care of business and will have the bye in week two.

Albany Caledonian were even more emphatic in their 7-1 drubbing of Rovers.

In the men’s reserves competition, Phoenix put seven goals past Rovers in a 7-2 victory while Polonia enjoyed an equally dominant performance in their 4-0 triumph over Bayswater.

Phoenix were 6-0 victors over Rovers in the women’s reserves league as Denmark Rezzies drew 2-2 with Albany Caledonian on Friday.

In the women’s development competition on Friday, Sharks beat Mt Barker 4-1 and Polonia edged to a 1-0 win over Bayswater.

In the senior men’s socials opening round, Rovers Vets were the stand-out side with a 9-0 trouncing of Bayswater.

There were also wins for Denmark Fairy Wrens, Old Boys, Polonia, Griffins and Denmark Blue Wrens.

Denmark Dream, Griffins and Albany Caledonian Thistle were round one winners in the senior women’s socials.
