Rising star God Has Chosen ready to tackle strong field in Group 3 Belmont Sprint for group of Albany owners

Albany-owned galloper God Has Chosen will face his biggest test yet when the highly rated youngster tackles a terrific field in the $200,000 Belmont Sprint (1400m) on Saturday.

Warren Lee bred the son of Playing God and is a part owner of the horse with former Albany trainer Neil Lee.

The exciting four-year-old is now in the care of Lindsey Smith and boasts a wonderful record of seven wins and three minor placings from 11 career starts.

He burst on to the WA racing scene with two slashing victories for Lee in Albany back in 2020-21 and had his first start for Smith in October last year.

God Has Chosen has won his past two starts, both ratings races at Ascot and Belmont, and the most recent performance was sizzling when defeating Watch Me Dance by nearly two lengths over 1600m.

Smith and connections have made the decision to contest a black type race for the first time with God Has Chosen, who will be having his fourth start this preparation.

God Has Chosen is among an outstanding field of 16 runners in the Group 3 feature race at Belmont Park, which includes star Albany runner Red Can Man, Simon Miller duo Amasenus and Valour Road and rising star Kaptain Kaos.

Jockey Clint Johnston-Porter retains the ride on God Has Chosen, after steering him to his last two victories.

The pair will jump from barrier seven and carry 59kg in the weight for age event.

The Steve Wolfe-trained Red Can Man is one of the fancied runners in the race, having finished runner-up to star WA sprinter Elite Street in the recent Group 3 Northam Stakes and Group 3 Roma Cup.

Shaun McGruddy will again partner Red Can Man and they drew ideally in barrier five.
