A push to reignite water polo as a sport in the Great Southern will receive a boost this weekend, with four events to be run at the Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre.

Water Polo WA will run two come-and-try sessions along with a coaching session and a social game.

A come-and-try session open to adults will be run tonight from 7-8pm with all skill levels welcome.

On Saturday from 3.30-5pm, a come-and-try session will be open for experienced juniors.

A junior and senior coaching clinic will be held on Sunday, from 10-11.30am.

The weekend will be capped off by a social game on Monday, from 7-8pm. Water Polo WA development officer Sharan Colliss said the aim was to try to increase the Albany Water Polo Club membership.

“It’s been at least two or three years since Albany has had a strong competition,” she said.

“It was quite a big thing before a few key people left and the interest fell away.

“Our aim is try and get people back involved and together because there is a few people that want to play.

“We hope a strong contingent of people turn up and we reinvigorate the sport because it’s a really nice pool.

“We had the State country champs in Bunbury on the weekend and we would like Albany to be able to participate again in these events.”
