At least two planes made go-arounds instead of landing at Perth Airport in Monday afternoon’s wintry and at times blustery conditions, where wind speed reached 60km/h.
The planes both entered a holding pattern above Perth before their respective pilots decided it was safe to make a second attempt.
Both landed successfully after their second line-up of the runway, a Perth Airport spokesperson confirmed.
The spokesperson said it was always an individual pilot’s discretion to decide what conditions they land in.
About the same time another plane bound for Port Hedland turned back to Perth after encountering engineering issues.
The manoeuvre, while frustrating for passengers, avoids planes getting stranded at smaller, less equipped airports.
