Brisbane stabbing: Horror attack as grandmother stabbed to death in front of grandchild at shopping centre

A woman in her 70s has died after an alleged stabbing at a busy shopping precinct in Brisbane — reportedly in front of her terrified granddaughter.

Police are investigating after they were alerted to the horror incident, which played out before 6.30pm local time in the carpark of the Town Square Redbank Plains Shopping Village.

The woman was found outside the shopping complex.

ABC News Queensland spoke to a witness who said he heard a girl, aged about six years old, “cry out for help for her grandmother”.

“I followed (the young girl) down the parking lot on the ground parking lot, I saw a lady in a pool of blood,” Ademola Afolabi, who works as a local doctor, said.

“Probably bleeding from the chest area. But I didn’t move anything. The only contact I had with her was the CPR.”

“It was too late before I got there.”

Dr Afolabi said he and others around him had tried to save the woman’s life.

“There was no pulse. We tried some CPR, but there was nothing. A nurse came around at some point but it was too late. They didn’t give her a chance,” he told The Courier Mail.

Mr Afolabi said it was scene of horror.

“Just the little girl. Nobody should witness that. I’ve seen a fair bit of dead people but this is — the whole circumstance around it is just shocking,” he said.

Town Square Redbank Plains is located about 12km from the Ipswich CBD and operates with a variety of different retailers, with trading hours until 9pm on Saturdays.

Queensland Police have launched a homicide investigation into the woman’s death and no arrests had been made as of Saturday evening.
