Broome’s sporting stars celebrated

The region’s finest sporting talent gathered late last month for the Shire of Broome Sports Awards, hosted by the Broome Sports Association.
The annual awards celebrate outstanding sporting achievement, community commitment and the volunteers who make local sport possible.
This year’s premier honour, Broome Sports Start of the Year, went to Baden Trunfio of the Broome Boxing Club.
Trunfio is currently in Japan representing Australia.
The region’s emerging talent was highlighted with Keegan Chappell from the Broome Touch Association named Broome Rising Sports Star of the Year, recognising his impressive development and growing influence in junior touch football.
Volunteers, a vital force behind all community sport, were honoured with the Volunteer of the Year, which was awarded to Duncan Smith of the Broome Squash Club.
In the coaching category, Tony Trunfio from the Broome Boxing Club received Coach of the Year.
