The longtime rivalry between Roebuck and reigning premiers Dirty Dozen has come to a head once again, with the Dozen triumphing in their first match-up for 2020.

In the second round of competition on Sunday, Dirty Dozen’s Brett Morley celebrated his 200-game milestone by winning the coin toss and electing to bat first.

Although the Dozen lost the early wicket of Raj Patel — caught by Jacob Alexander for three — the side managed to get themselves a good start as Scott Hanna produced some big hits.

As Hanna continued hitting fours left, right and centre, it seemed the Roebuck fielding was getting the better of the Dozen with the likes of Casey Zepnick, Rangana Ashan and Sam Collins suffering early exits.

Despite Roebuck putting on the pressure in the field, big hits by Hanna, Morley and Adam Falls proved useful as the Dozen finished their 20 overs on 8-122.

At the change, it seemed Roebuck were ready to give a replica of their performance against Mangrove from round one as they got off to a flyer with 0-55 after nine overs.

However, once Scott Bidgood was sent packing, a chain reaction began as fallen wickets and short hits began working in the Dozen’s favour. As the match came down to its final over, Roebuck had a mammoth task to produce 27 runs.

Roebuck ultimately fell short as the Dozen took their second consecutive win.

Meanwhile, Mangrove defeated Wanderers in a tight contest 5-99 to 5-98.
