Sage heads win out in ball game

In a battle between the old and new, it was experience that triumphed over enthusiasm when beach volleyball returned to Broome.

After the first season of 2020 was called off because of COVID-19, teams returned to the pindan courts at Victory Life last Wednesday to begin a new season.

Freeballin took on the debuting Blue Bones, with Freeballin dominating the court from the outset.

Although Blue Bones made some attempts to make up some ground, Freeballin went on to take the first set 25-13.

It was a similar story in the second set as wayward passes continued to cost Blue Bones points, although there was some promise in the form of some solid rallies between them and Freeballin.

However, Freeballin held strong to win the second set 25-11.

The third set saw Freeballin really begin to dominate, keeping Blue Bones to single digits to take the set and the match 25-7.

Elsewhere, the Eagles defeated the Beta Blockers 2-1, the Islanders held off the Ancient Guns 3-0, and the Volleybrawlers beat Set for Life 2-1.
