Watch and Act: Residents urged to stay alert as bushfire erupts in Wandi

Residents in part of Perth’s south west have been urged to stay alert, after a bushfire started just before 2pm.
A watch and act is in place for people in Wandi in the City of Kwinana with the Department of Fire and Emergency Services warning there is a threat to lives and homes.
People in the area bounded by Rowley Road to the north, De Haer Road to the east, De Haer Road across to Bodeman Road to the south, and Bodeman Road including Wandi Drive across Rowley Road to the west in parts of Wandi are urged to stay alert and monitor their surroundings as conditions could change.
“You may need to act quickly so ensure you are prepared if the situation gets worse,” the DFES advice read.
“Read through your bushfire plan. If you do not have a plan make one by visiting My Bushfire Plan. Have your emergency kit ready.
“If you find it hard to move quickly, leaving now is your safest option.
“Keep your doors and windows closed to keep out smoke. Continue to patrol your property and be ready to put out spot fires.”
Those who plan to stay and defend are urged to ensure they are mentally and physically prepared, with protective clothing and an independent water supply.
Motorists are asked to avoid the area, reduce speed and drive carefully.
