Wild way police found convicted child rapist, Michael Angok, five days after fleeing custody in Sydney

Police have charged a convicted child rapist who escaped from a hospital after finding his pair of shoes outside a house in Sydney’s west. Michael Angok, 30, was on the run for five days after fleeing custody while being transferred from Villawood Immigration Detention Centre to Bankstown Hospital shortly after 9.30am on Wednesday. The search spanned five days, comprised of the dog squad dog squad, Raptor and Polair units, who established a perimeter and conducted searches of the Bankstown area. Police allege they located a pair of shoes belonging to the man outside the house where the crime scene was established. Police confirmed Angok had been taken to Blacktown Police Station where inquiries are continuing. He has since been charged on an oustanding warrant and was refused bail. He is due to face a Blacktown court on Monday. Police are investigating his whereabouts prior to his arrest, and whether Angok was being harboured. Footage showed the man being walked into the police station shortly after his arrest. Dressed in a grey jumper and dark pants, the escapee walked through the police station with his hands in cuffs, flanked by officers. Angok was convicted of sexually assaulting a teenage girl at a Doonside park in February 2014 and had been released in 2017, The Daily Telegraph reported. He was undergoing medical treatment at the hospital when he fled the hospital about 9.30am Wednesday, Detective Superintendent Brett Van Akker told reporters. Angok was due to be deported from Australia at the time of his escape.
