VideoA returned traveller at the Pan Pacific in Perth has caught COVID-19 from an infected guest staying in the room next door.

The crew member aboard the Allegra ship docked in Kwinana — who tested positive to COVID-19 yesterday — has now tested negative to the virus.

The man in his 20s tested positive after being taken to Fiona Stanley Hospital for an unrelated ailment on Sunday.

Today, the State Government confirmed that it was a historical case of COVID-19.

This means that the man is no longer contagious.

This morning, Premier Mark McGowan said his strong preference was for the ship to set sail for Malaysia “as soon as possible”.

“We are expressing to the Federal Government that we'd like the ship to sail as soon as possible.

“The crew are healthy, the ship is ready to go. It reduces the pressure on Western Australia if the ship sells immediately.

“There are meetings later on today with the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (and) WA Health will put the view to Commonwealth that the ship needs to sail immediately.”
