Joshua Ashley Rowson appears in court accused of ramming police car in Churchlands and injuring officers

A man accused of ramming a police car injuring two officers following a dangerous pursuit through a Perth suburb had two juveniles inside and was already on bail for other offences, a court was told. The details were revealed as Joshua Ashley Rowson faced Perth Magistrates Court on Thursday charged over the incident that took place in Churchlands on Tuesday. The court was told the 29-year-old was already on bail for a series of offences when he allegedly tried to evade police after they tried to pull the car he was driving over. A police prosecutor said officers had spotted a white Holden Commodore with false plates driving on Pearson Street near the intersection of Hale Road about 10.40pm when the driver allegedly sped away. He said the officers activated their lights and sirens and began pursuing the car as it allegedly drove recklessly on several roads including in the opposite lane throughout the suburb. The court was told Mr Rowson allegedly reached speeds of more than 100kph throughout the pursuit before becoming stuck in a cul-de-sac. Officers then used their vehicle to try to block the exit but left enough space for the Commodore to pass through. But the police prosecutor said Mr Rowson allegedly “accelerated” towards the police car, crashing into the front passenger side and injuring two officers. The accused then tried to place the car into reverse but mistakenly placed it into neutral before placing it back into reverse. Mr Rowson then allegedly crashed into a parked car on a nearby driveway. When police arrested the accused, they discovered two juveniles inside the vehicle. During the hearing, Mr Rowson, who did not have a lawyer, initially asked Magistrate Gavin MacLean for bail but withdrew his application after police read out the allegations. He was remanded int custody and will appear in court again in June.
