Homicide detectives charge Crawley man with manslaughter after man found dead on South Terrace in Fremantle

A Crawley man has been charged with manslaughter after a man was found dead on a popular street in Fremantle in the early hours of Saturday morning. Emergency services rushed to the scene after a man, aged in his 60s, was found unresponsive on South Terrace, near Douglas Street, about 2.05am. He was rushed to Fiona Stanley Hospital, where he later died. Two men, aged in their 20s, were arrested at the scene and were questioned by police. On Sunday, homicide detectives charged a 26-year-old man from Crawley with one count of manslaughter. He was refused bail and is set to appear in Perth Magistrate’s Court on Sunday. There was a strong police presence at the scene on Saturday morning, with detectives and forensic officers taking photographs and probing the area for clues. Masked forensic officers — who were dressed in blue jumpsuits — were also seen carrying several brown paper bags, examining a street corner near Douglas Street. South Terrace resident George Sanderson-Brown said he woke up to loud screaming about 2am. He described the screams as “aggressive”, adding he also heard people fighting. “The scream was like someone’s hurt, not like fun screaming or like someone’s drunk,” he said. “(It was) like a deep scream, like it came from the heart … and it actually hurts. “There were three screams, like someone was yelling at someone, but the other person was screaming in agony.” South Terrace between Price Street and South Street was closed for more than 12 hours.
