There is a threat to lives and properties in parts of Kinross as burning embers from a bushfire are likely to be blown around homes.

Firefighters are working to douse the fire which erupted in bushland near Connolly Drive and Grangemouth Turn about 4.40pm on Sunday.

A bushfire watch and act warning is in place for people in the area after burning embers from the fire are likely to be blown around homes, potentially causing more fires.

Residents are urged to leave now if they are able to do so, unless they plan to stay and defend homes. The fire is out of control and not contained.

“There is a possible threat to lives and homes as a fire is burning in the area and conditions are changing,” the department of fire and emergency services said.

“Move flammable materials such as doormats, wheelie bins and outdoor furniture away from your home.

“If you plan to stay and defend ensure you are mentally and physically prepared, with protective clothing and an independent water supply.

“Make final preparations now and start patrolling your property to put out spot fires.”

Residents bounded by the watch and act advice, issued by DFES, are located west of the blaze on Kinross Drive, south to Kirkdale Turn, east to Tynron Way and north to Grangemouth Turn. The impacted area covers several homes, Mac Naughton Park, Callander Park and Kinross Primary School.

A map of the impacted area is available online here.
