A Toyota Hilux has been left a crumpled heap after colliding with a truck on Kwinana Freeway causing traffic chaos on Thursday night.

The Hilux collided into the back of a truck, dragging it into freeway barriers just after 9pm causing the freeway to close at Russell Road in Hammond Park.

The driver of the Hilux was trapped inside his vehicle until emergency services arrived at the scene.

The freeway became a backlog of traffic and motorists were urged to exercise extreme caution when driving through the area.

St John Ambulance, police and firefighters attended the incident.

The driver of the vehicle was taken by ambulance to hospital where his condition remains unknown.

The freeway became a backlog of traffic and motorists were urged to exercise extreme caution when driving through the area.
