Kwinana Freeway crash: Two people seriously injured after road train, truck and car crash in Bertram

A 64-year-old man is fighting for his life after a horrific crash between a road train, truck and a car which forced the closure of the Kwinana Freeway.

The three vehicles, a Ford Ranger ute, a Hino truck and a Kenworth road train, were travelling north when the crash happened about 9.25am in the northbound lanes of the freeway, near the Mortimer Road intersection in Bertram on Tuesday morning.

The man, who was driving the car, was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital with critical injuries and is in a critical condition.

The 55-year-old driver of the truck also received multiple serious injuries and was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital under priority conditions. He is in a stable condition.

The 34-year-old man who was driving the road train was not injured.

The car and truck driver had to be cut out of their mangled vehicles by Department of Fire and Emergency Services firefighters.

Kwinana Freeway northbound between Mundijong Road and Mortimer Road has been closed as emergency services clear the scene.

Main Roads WA says traffic is being diverted onto Mundijong Road and motorists should consider taking Thomas Road to get back to Kwinana Fwy northbound.

The RAC Rescue helicopter was at the scene but was stood down.

Police were also called to the scene.

Main Roads advised the crash was cleared about 4.45pm.

It comes as emergency services personnel were also called to a separate crash in The Spectacles where a woman in her 30s was injured at about 11.30am, but it is understood her injuries are not life-threatening.

Police have appealed for dash-cam or mobile phone vision relating to the Bertram crash which can be uploaded here.
