A disabled man who relies on a wheelchair to move around has undergone major surgery to save his leg after he and his therapy dog were hit by a car in Yokine.

Muchael Cuza, 54, was injured at the intersection of Hector Street and Milton Street just after 6pm last night when he was hit by a Holden station sedan while walking his dog Fluffy.

His wife Mariana said her husband’s leg had been “crushed” and his beloved pet killed on a path he travelled almost every day.

“Michael doesn’t know that the dog’s gone,” Ms Cuza said.

“He thinks that he saved the dog.”

Police say Mr Cuza was thrown from his motorised wheelchair before being taken to Royal Perth Hospital.

The driver of the Holden, a man in his 20s, was not hurt and is assisting officers with their investigation.

Mr Cuza was diagnosed with MS 24 years ago but he was determined never to be defined by it.

His wish was to strengthen himself with physiotherapy so he could walk his daughter down the aisle to get married — but that now hangs in the balance.

Police want to speak to any witnesses or anyone with dash-cam footage from the area.

Anyone with any information can call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or make a report online.
