Woman dragged by train after legs trapped against platform at Whitfords station

A young woman has miraculously survived after being dragged by a Perth-bound train when she became trapped between a platform and the train in the early hours of this morning.

A Public Transport Authority spokesperson confirmed the incident occurred at the Whitfords train station around 1.30am on Sunday.

“A young female was sitting on the edge of Platform 1 at Whitfords Station with her legs dangling over the edge. The incoming train, applied full emergency braking but was not able to stop before it reached her,” a statement said.

“The front of the train passed without impact, but her legs became caught in the step on the outside of the door, and she was dragged a short way along the platform.”

Police, DFES, and St Johns Ambulance were called the scene, the woman was freed around 2am after DFES officers used hydraulic spreaders to open up the gap between the platform and the train.

She was taken to Royal Perth Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Train services resumed around 2.20am.
