Ascot trip likely for Allan Hughes and Ros White-trained Kenyluck after Ladies Day win at Geraldton Turf Club

Geraldton Turf Club favourite Kenyluck represented local pride at a Ladies Day meet mostly dominated by out-of-town horses, with a win earning the six-year-old a spell and a potential trip to Ascot.

Trainer Allan Hughes said Kenyluck, the club’s reigning back-to-back horse of the year, had done a “fantastic” job to get the win.

“He’s just a good little horse,” Hughes said. “Fantastic. He’s got to go to town now, he deserves to go to town and win one.

“He’s done all his commitments in the bush and he’s done them well, to carry that weight today and win like that against reasonably good horses.

“Heritage Sash is no slouch, Megadon is no slouch.

“They gave him a bit of weight, too.

“I’ll give him a couple of weeks off and freshen him up and we’ll go down to Ascot and see what we can do,” said Hughes.

He said Colour Me Quick would also be in the winnings soon after the four-year-old gained back several lengths to finish third in race three.

Jockey Rosie Mahoney, who was aboard in both races, has now had four rides at Geraldton — two of them have been on Kenyluck and both of those were wins.

She said she could see the track becoming a favourite.

“I love it,” she said. “There are good trainers and good horses to ride.

“I think this is going to be a favourite track of mine very quickly. Kenyluck is a great horse, he’s got a lot of grit about him.’’

Red Cadillac, trained by Muchea-based Fenella Martin, won race one before horses trained by Karnup-based Adam Durrant cleaned up, taking races two, three and four and the Brown Brothers Ladies day Sprint.

Ziera won race seven for trainer of the year Graeme Hammarquist with top jockey Kyra Yuill aboard.
