Aztecs beat Pumas in grand final to go unbeaten in Geraldton netball
Aztecs finished a stunning season on Saturday night, winning a tense grand final to go undefeated for the entire campaign.
They beat Pumas by two points, 43-41, after the sides had been neck-and-neck until the dying seconds. Aztecs coach Leanne Fiorenza said dedication to training and hard, full-court defending on the night paid off.
“It was a whole-team effort,” Fiorenza said. “Our full-court defence took the pressure off our defenders.
“Everything that we worked for came together on the night —
the commitment we showed to training and the games helped us get over the line.”
Libby Shuttlewood, who stepped in for regular goal shooter Katina Kennedy, rained goals all night.
Michelle Taylor was solid in defence and won the season fairest and best award.
For Pumas, Julia Teakle was effective in wing attack and voted best on court. Goal shooter Erica Yokwe was accurate, with goal attack Hannah Trusso supporting well.
