Captains unveiled for GNFL Indigenous round

The GNFL has unveiled the Indigenous players who will step up and lead their teams as captains for this weekend’s Indigenous Round.

The teams will also sport a specially designed Indigenous jumper for this special round, thanks to work from local artists around the Mid West.

Mullewa captain Clinton Bolton said he was looking forward to the round.

“It’s a good day out to celebrate our culture and sport by doing what we love,” he said.

Towns captain Stuart Egan had a similar view.

“It’s a good thing for the GNFL to acknowledge all the Indigenous boys playing, past, future and present and the impact they’ve had on the competition,” he said.

GNFL president Carrissa Bellottie hoped the round could lead to bigger and better celebrations in future seasons.

“We’ve had to scale back celebrations in the past few seasons due to COVID so hopefully having the jerseys on display can kickstart a revival in the round,” she said.

“Going forward we’d love to hold a game on Friday night allowing players from all clubs to attend in celebration of the round.”

Indigenous Round games will feature a welcome to country and kicks off on Saturday with Railways playing Northampton and Brigades against Towns. On Sunday, Mullewa will host Rovers.
