City of Greater Geraldton election candidates: Former councillor Mike Reymond seeks re-election
Former City of Greater Geraldton councillor, retired engineer and RAAF veteran Michael Reymond is again in the running for a seat at the council, determined to keep the city focused on its core responsibilities — delivering essential services efficiently and managing finances wisely.
“I am seeking re-election to council to ensure it remains focused on essential services and that it stays financially responsible and operationally efficient,” he said.
Mr Reymond said one of his key goals was to see the council “positively and responsibly support and promote businesses and investment in our region to ensure our future economic growth”.
He emphasised the importance of open communication between residents and their elected representatives.
“I understand the importance of listening, consulting and involving residents in the council’s decision-making process,” Mr Reymond said.
“I often remind myself that my role and responsibilities as a councillor is to represent the interests of all electors, ratepayers and residents of the district.
“To provide leadership and guidance to the community and to facilitate communication between the community and the council to enable your participation in the decision-making processes at the council and at committee meetings.
“I will continue to provide residents a strong voice and advocate for them in council to represent their opinions and concerns.”
Mr Reymond, who has lived in Geraldton with his family for the past 20 years, brings with him a wealth of experience from both his professional background and community involvement. He said he has a strong grasp of economic, health and education issues.
First elected to the council in 2015, he served the city from 2015 to 2019 and again from 2021 to 2023, giving him deep insight into the realities of local government.
“It’s a lifestyle like nowhere else. I want to see our city and surrounding areas have an exciting, prosperous and vibrant future; one that is inclusive and where families and children can grow up safely,” he said.
“I bring the experience and knowledge of having worked in many industries and been involved in numerous local community organisations and committees.
“I want council to be proactive in ensuring that State and Federal governments financially assist our city’s health, sporting, education, safety and infrastructure needs.”
During his previous term, Mr Reymond was active across a number of committees, including the seniors, art and public art, and heritage committees.
The Geraldton grandfather of eight is no stranger to public life having run in the 2025 State election for the Australian Christian Party, where he placed a particular emphasis on policies that “uphold personal freedoms, family values and regional communities”.
Were he to be elected, Mr Reymond said he would be proactive in keeping the local government accountable and being a voice for all.
