Fenix renews partnership with Geraldton Buccaneers as name sponsor

The Fenix Geraldton Buccaneers can go forward with confidence as their name sponsor Fenix Resources has re-signed with the club for another three years.
As one of the few regional teams in the NBL1 West, the Buccaneers have kept their sponsors in-house with the three-year partnership with Fenix.
Fenix Resources chairman John Welborn said the partnership kept the Mid West team supported by a Mid West business.
“We’re a Mid West focused business in Fenix; we started as a mining company near Cue and Meekatharra,” he said.
“Within Fenix and Newhaul, we employ more than 250 people in the Mid West … we’re always looking to recruit and retain a local Mid West workforce.
“It’s part of our commitment to community; we think the Geraldton Buccaneers are a great community investment for us.”
Mr Welborn said they were proud to be aligned with the Geraldton side.
“We’ve been delighted to be initially a sponsor and now the main sponsor of the Fenix Geraldton Buccaneers,” he said.
“We like their spirit, we certainly like their competitiveness and the way they go about playing basketball.”
Buccaneers general manager Andrew Horstman said the partnership gave the Buccaneers ease of mind to be able to recruit players and bolster their championship roster.
“Gives us a lot of confidence going into the post season, off-season, when it comes to recruiting, knowing that we’ve got the resources there,” he said.
“A Mid West company employing a majority of Mid West people, supporting a Mid West team, there’s just some great synergies there for us.”
