Geraldton Health Campus redevelopment progressing with installation of four central energy plant modules

The redevelopment of Geraldton Health Campus continues to progress, with the installation of four central energy plant modules the latest milestone in the $188 million project. The modules were built in Malaga and transported to Geraldton to supply heating, cooling and electricity across the health campus through a centralised system. “The arrival of WA-made energy modules is a great example of how we’re using smart engineering to deliver complex health infrastructure more efficiently,” Health Infrastructure Minister John Carey said. “We’re creating a facility that’s built for the future and this milestone brings us closer to delivering an upgraded health campus that supports better access to healthcare for people in the Mid West. Structural works for the new building have been completed, with all building facade components also installed. Construction is now under way on masonry, structural steel, ceilings and services for the new acute mental health unit. Final roof slabs have been poured for the expanded emergency department, allowing for glazing, cladding and work on the external and internal walls to begin. A completion date is still slated for some time next year. The new building is connected to the existing hospital and both ground and first floor levels, allowing staff and patients to easily move between the new and existing facilities. The redevelopment includes an expanded ED, new intensive care unit and high dependency unit as well an integrated mental health service comprising an adult mental health inpatient unit and mental health short-stay unit. More than $10 million has been awarded in contracts to Mid West businesses, creating local jobs. The State Government has also allocated $1m in the 2025-26 State Budget to plan for a $30m cancer treatment facility in Geraldton, to be jointly funded by State and Federal governments.
