Tambellup claimed a flag double in the Central Great Southern Hockey Association men’s and women’s grand finals, with Katanning taking out the junior title after a hard-fought decider.
Tambellup Gold have been the team to beat all season, recording nine wins and a draw in their 10-game men’s season to finish top of the ladder at the end of the home-and-away season, eight points clear of Kojonup.
The two top sides faced off in the grand final in Kojonup on September 5, after Kojonup crushed Katanning Red 3-0 in the preliminary final to earn themselves a spot in the big dance.

The home side were looking to score an upset win after drawing with Tambellup Gold in round seven of the regular season, the only game the top team did not win this season.
However, Tambellup proved too strong for the underdogs, and marched home with a 2-1 win.
Tambellup’s James Douglas was named best on ground in the victory, while teammate Charlie Letter won both the fairest and best award for the season and the leading goal scorer title.

In a great day out for the club, Tambellup recorded their second grand final win in the women’s competition, with the Tambellup ladies defeating Katanning 3-0.
The teams have met four times across the season, and Katanning only managed to come out on top once, marking Tambellup’s only loss for the season.
The grand final was an exciting match, with Tambellup working hard across the field to break away and keep Katanning scoreless, recording an emphatic victory to end their season in style.

Tambellup’s Tara Simpson was best afield in the tightly contested match, showing class for the winners after a consistent season.
Katanning’s Jodie Martens was named best and fairest in the women’s competition, a silver lining in her side’s grand final defeat, while Tambellup’s Taryn Willmott also polled strongly to finish runner-up fairest and best and teammate Shamara Letter was the competition’s leading goal scorer.
Katanning claimed the junior shield in the closest grand final of the weekend, defeating Tambellup on percentage after neither side managed to score in regular time.

The young side had a stellar season, finishing the season with 10 wins out of their 12 games.
Tambellup’s Bree Sprigg and Kojonup’s Jed Hunter were awarded joint fairest and best for the season, with Tahleia Burnett from Katanning finishing as runner-up.
Katanning forward Declan Chilcott claimed the title of leading goal scorer for the junior competition.
Winning Katanning junior coach Mark Letter said the grand final victory capped off a brilliant season.
“It was a fantastic season for our junior team, and we are incredibly proud of what they have achieved,” he said.
“The dedication of the players, along with the support from coaches, volunteers, families and supporters has made this a special season for the Katanning Cougars.
“We can’t wait to see everyone back next year. Go Cougars!”
