UGSFL 2025: All on the line in defining final round as Eagles, Tigers, Cougars and Cats fight for two spots

The fight for the last two finals spots in the Upper Great Southern Football League competition will come down to the final round of the regular season this Sunday. Katanning Wanderers’ upset win over Narrogin and Kukerin-Dumbleyung’s victory over Williams in round 13 at the weekend, set up a thrilling finish to the home and away season. The third-placed Boddington through to the sixth-placed Cats are separated by just four premiership points heading into round 14. The Eagles and Cats clash in a huge contest at Boddington on Sunday while the Cougars remain a big chance to finish in the top four, as they face the seventh-placed Wagin in their final game. The Tigers face a tougher task, hosting ladder leaders Wickepin, in their bid to stay inside the top four. The Cougars started superbly at Stubbs Park on Sunday to keep their season alive, defeating the Cats by 10 points. Four goals to one in the opening term set up the 8.5 (53) to 6.7 (43) result for the home side as Peter Gioulis and Toby Perrin kicked two majors each. The visitors won the second half, but the loss saw them slip to sixth on the ladder. Liam Park, Jonty Robinson, Konnah Holmes, Dylan Scoble, Austin Shotter and Nick Groenenberg were the stars for the Cougars who will now hope to force their way into the finals having turned their season around mid-year. The Tigers strengthened their finals hopes with a superb 12-point twilight win over the Hawks at Quartermaine Oval on Saturday. In wet conditions the home side kicked three goals to one in the first to secure a seventh win of the season. Joshua McMahon was outstanding with five goals and well supported by Caleb Keley (two goals) and Ryan Pontillo (two) as the Tigers got over the line, 11.12 (78) to 9.12 (66). The result ended an 11-game winning streak for the Hawks and they surrendered top spot to the Warriors. The Eagles got back on the winners, having lost their previous four games, as star forward Lloyd Padwick had a day out with 11 goals. Padwick was brilliant in the front half, taking his season tally to 52 majors, as the Eagles won by 83 points at Boddington on Saturday. Luke Kirk added six goals while Harry Cabalzar and Zak Pretty returned to the Eagles side in the 19.13 (127) to 7.2 (44) triumph. The Warriors claimed top spot by percentage with a 109-point belting of Brookton-Pingelly at Pingelly on Sunday. Kayle Kirby booted five majors while David Roche (three goals), Flynn Spark, Kailen Leahy, Ryan Melvin (three), Carter Wilson and Sam Fortini were all key contributors for the visitors. All round 14 games will be played this Sunday with the Tigers hosting the Warriors at Quartermaine Oval and the Cats travelling to Boddington to face the reigning premiers. Nenke Park will be the venue the Cougars and Bulldogs do battle while the Hawks are at home against the Panthers.
