The Warmun community is celebrating the completion of a $1.3 million redevelopment of Warmun Oval, providing the Kimberley town with a first-class sporting precinct just in time for the East Kimberley Football League season.

The project funded through the State Government’s PlayOn WA initiative, has overhauled the facility delivering a full refurbishment of the changerooms including new showers, toilets and parents’ room.

The oval itself has also seen significant improvements, with the surface levelled and reseeded alongside the installation of a modern reticulation system.

Players will also benefit from new interchange benches with an integrated water supply and a dedicated scoreboard stand.

Kiosk facilities have also received a major upgrade featuring stainless steel benches, new appliances and improved storage.

A new boundary fence has also been installed alongside freshly planted trees for shade and new CCTV to improve security.

Sport and Recreation Minister Rita Saffioti said the timing of the completion was a win for the region, with the Warmun Eagles set to host the Port Wyndham Crocs for the season’s first game.

“This is a great outcome for the Warmun community and means local players can take the field this season with modern, high-quality facilities,” she said.

Kimberley MLA Divina D’Anna said the upgrades to the changerooms and kiosk would make game days and community events more enjoyable for everyone involved.

“It’s fantastic to see Warmun Oval ready for the upcoming football season with upgraded facilities that will make a real difference for the local players, volunteers and families,” she said.

The work is part of a wider $2.35m investment in Warmun’s sporting infrastructure which will eventually include further upgrades to the basketball courts and recreation centre.
