A “naughty” koala has been rescued from the rooftop of a southwest Sydney house and returned to bushland after a rescue operation involving Fire and Rescue NSW and wildlife volunteers.

The koala was found crawling on the roof of a home at St Helens Park in Campbelltown on Wednesday morning.

It is unknown how the animal came to be on the roof.

“This morning saw a challenging rescue not only for us koala rescuers but also for the fire (department) that attended,” the post read.

“Thank you to Jason for calling us straight away to report his naughty visitor that was in trouble up on his roof top.

“With the help of Fire and Rescue NSW Station 087 Rosemeadow the team put in place a safe plan for the koala's rescue from the rooftop, such an amazing crew who successfully contained the male koala.

“Sydney Wildlife (Sydney Metropolitan Wildlife Services) koala team were on site within minutes to help aid the rescue of this koala in trouble and worked in with the Fire crew to help him down safely without any injuries.

“This koala was well checked over and there was no reason for him to come into care, so he was taken to nearby bush where he was released back into his natural habitat and within minutes he was up high and eating.”
