A Geraldton man is over-the-moon at the thought of trading gruelling 12-hour work days for a trip overseas after pocketing $1.8 million from the Saturday Lotto.
The Mid West battler was left stunned last week after making his weekly trip to local favourite Rigter’s IGA in Geraldton to pick up his Slikpik ticket for the Saturday draw.
None-the-wiser, the man aged in his 60s was going through the motions of checking the previous weeks tickets before alarm bells started to ring.
“I never expected to win, a Saturday Lotto ticket is just part of my weekly routine, and I didn’t even check my ticket until it was time to buy the next one,” he said.
Stunned by the $1.8 million division one win, the West Aussie plans to scale back on the long work days.
He’s setting his sights on a international trip instead.
“I’ve always wanted to see the Chiang Mai Yi Peng Lantern Festival,” the winner said.
“I have travelled a lot around South-East Asia, but that is one thing that I haven’t seen yet.”
Despite his bold plans, the winner has no plans on blowing through all his cash.
“I’ll be going to see a financial planner, I want to make sure this lasts,” he said.
“I want to work less and explore more – there are lots of remote islands in Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam I’d like to see.”
The fortunate Geraldton man was one of three West Aussies to win big from the June 20 draw, that saw a staggering 11 Aussies rake in a near $2m prize haul.
His life-changing numbers from draw #4687 were 22, 14, 6, 21, 9, 3 and the supps were 38 and 20.
Punters looking to join the Mid West man in the winners circle can try their luck at Tuesday’s OzLotto draw, with a generous $30m up for grabs.
