Man admits to secretly filming women using toilet, upskirting others at shopping centres and a university

Vile details behind how a man secretly recorded multiple women in varying states of undress - at times using a hidden camera to film them as they used the toilet - have been revealed in court documents. Zachary Homer, 35, has admitted to recording at least 10 women at shopping centres and a university over nearly two years in Sydney’s northern suburbs, including two occasions in which he filmed unknown women using the toilet through a hidden camera he had set up, court documents have revealed. His secret recordings only came to light when a woman trying on a dress at Big W noticed a phone peeking in from under an adjacent change room cubicle last August. A trove of photos and videos of unknown victims using bathrooms, change rooms, and walking around shopping centres and a university campus were uncovered by police upon a search of Homer’s two Sony mobile phones last year. Several endoscope and covert button-style cameras were later found in his bedroom by police, which appear to have been used to record some of the images and videos found on his phones. New details of Homer’s covert recordings have now been revealed in court documents ahead of his sentencing on Friday. His offending dates back nearly two years to 2023, with Homer setting up a hidden camera in a bathroom and filming an unknown woman going to the toilet in November of that year. More than a year later he again set up a hidden camera in a bathroom and recorded an unknown woman using the toilet in January 2025. Homer went on to upskirt a woman at the register of the Woolworths in Macquarie Centre in March 2025 before filming another woman at Big W in North Ryde under the cubicle of a change room two weeks later. He continued to film women under the change room partitions at Big W through April and June, while also upskirting women at Macquarie University in April and July. At one stage he tried to film a woman’s private area during a book fair at the university in April “for the purpose of sexual arousal or sexual gratification”. “The accused held the phone at a low angle and placed the camera near multiple females, including one wearing a skirt,” the documents state. “The accused attempted to record the unknown female’s private area, specifically her underwear.” He returned to the campus in July where he “recorded under the skirts of females who were unaware and not consenting”. Homer was finally caught on August 10, 2025, when a woman trying on a dress at North Ryde Big W saw his phone peeking into the change room she was in. The 35-year-old had snuck his phone under from an adjacent cubicle. The woman confronted him before alerting the store manager and security. Police found a series of photos and videos of “unknown persons using bathrooms and change rooms while in various states of undress” on his two phones. Homer was arrested two days later at his home following an analysis of his two phones. He made “full and frank” admissions of his offending to police, indicating he knowingly and intentionally recorded the victims without their consent. Homer pleaded guilty to four counts of intentionally record intimate image without consent and a further count of filming a person’s private parts without consent. He will be sentenced in the Burwood Local Court on Friday.
